Overview
SUN (Symbolic Universal Notation) is a program that brings Scripture to the Deaf and DeafBlind who do not know how to read or use their national sign language. Using a symbolic system of writing, they are able to read God's Word for themselves.
How It Works
SUN notation consists of a small group of easy-to-learn characters that can be combined or changed to make additional symbols called extensions. Between the characters and extensions, all of Scripture is represented. (At right is an excerpt from John 3 in SUN notation.) The SUN symbols are taught to the Deaf using illustrations and local sign language to improve retention. The DeafBlind are taught using tactile 3D printed SUN characters.
